PSL star gives AFCON giants big QF boost

A DStv Premiership star has now provided his side with a major boost ahead of their crunch 2023 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final tie.

Chippa United star Stanley Nwabali has been cleared of injury, and is available to represent the Super Eagles against Angola on Friday evening as both teams look to secure a spot in the semi-finals, according to Daily Post Nigeria.

The goalkeeper has emerged as a surprise package following his latest national team call-up, having conceded just one goal up to this point in the tournament.

There were thus serious fears surrounding his potential unavailability for Nigeria's crunch quarter-final tie when he was forced to depart the pitch during his team's round of 16 win over Cameroon after picking up a mild ligament injury.

Those fears, however, have seemingly been put to bed, with the shot-stopper said to have fully recovered from the injury and rejoined his teammates for training on Wednesday.

Ahead of the match, Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro gave an update on Nwabali's chances of playing, and revealed that a final decision must still be made.

"Today, we are going to take the final decision [on Nwabali]. We are going to take a final fitness test and if he cannot play, we will play Francis [Uzoho] because I have confidence in him, in both," the manager said at a pre-match press conference.
