An African manager has been sacked as national team head coach after failing to reach an ambitious FIFA rankings target.
The Guinean Football Federation (FGF) has confirmed the dismissal of head coach Kaba Diawara due to the team's failure to reach certain objectives under his guidance.

The former Paris Saint-Germain star was tasked with leading the nation to become one of the top 10-ranked CAF teams in the FIFA rankings.
However, Guinea are currently ranked 77th in the world and 15th in Africa, which has ultimately cost Diawara his job after he was appointed in 2021.
"The Guinean Football Federation (FGF) informs the public, Syli National supporters, and all partners that the collaboration with the coach of the Syli A national team, Mr. Kaba Diawara, as well as with all of his technical staff, has been terminated," a statement by the organisation reads, according to AfricaFootUnited.
"This decision was taken due to the lack of achievement of the sporting objectives that had been contractually set. The objective initially assigned to the outgoing staff was to advance the Syli National A among the top 10 African nations in the FIFA rankings during a two-year evaluation period. Unfortunately, this objective was not achieved, which led to the need for a strategic reorientation.
"To ensure an effective transition and continuity in the preparation of the next deadlines, it was decided to set up a transitional board of directors responsible for the technical management of Syli A. This board of directors will be in place until at least November 2024, the period corresponding to the end of the qualifications for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
"This board will be placed under the supervision of the National Technical Director and will be co-ordinated by Mr. Michel Dussuyer, former coach of the Syli National, recognised for his great experience and reputation in the football world. His in-depth knowledge of African football and his past experience at the head of the national team constitute a major asset for this transitional period.
"The board will also include Mr. Charles Paquille, former assistant to the national coach, who will assume the role of coach. His proximity to the players and his understanding of the team's internal dynamics will be crucial to maintaining the team's cohesion and performance. Mr. Souleymane Camara, current coach of the Syli des joueurs locales, will also be part of this board as assistant to Mr. Charles Paquille, bringing his expertise and knowledge of local talent, which will further strengthen the link between players playing abroad and those at home.
"The Guinean Football Federation is convinced that this transitional board will be able to maximise the potential of the talents present within our selection, while breathing new momentum that is essential to achieve the ambitious sporting objectives that we have set for ourselves.
"We call on all supporters and partners to support this new team in its mission to lead the Syli National to new heights."
