Al Ahly chief: I am not to blame for Pitso's exit

A top Al Ahly official has now insisted he was not responsible for Pitso Mosimane's exit from the club in 2022.

The 59-year-old, who is currently without a job but in demand after leaving Al Wahda earlier this month, left many surprised when it was announced that he was leaving the Egyptian giants by mutual consent last year.

According to reports at the time, the club had insisted that he remains in charge but the South African opted to leave in the middle of the season instead.

After leaving the job, Mosimane expressed that he was fatigued by the demands of the role, with Al Ahly president Mahmoud El-Khatib also confirming this to be the reason for his exit months later.

Speaking to Al Ahly TV in August 2022, El Khatib said: "While he was attending a training course in Morocco, we were discussing with Mosimane what the club needed for the Egyptian Premier League campaign. But he told us he was tired physically and psychologically and couldn't continue the season."

El-Khatib also admitted that there was a campaign against Mosimane, with many of the side's former players and legends having constantly criticised the tactician.

Hossam Ghaly, a member of Al Ahly's board of directors and former Red Devils star, was among those accused of having an agenda against the former Mamelodi Sundowns boss.

However, he has now denied those claims.

"I was the one who caused the departure of Mosimane and Sayed Abdel-Hafiz [director of football who left the club in August this year]? This talk is not true, and things in Al Ahly Club do not proceed individually, and all decisions are collective, and there is no single person in Al Ahly Club who is responsible," Ghaly told On Time Sports 2, per Yalla Kora.

"He is responsible for a decision, and these things do not happen in Al-Ahly.

"I cannot say that I am for or against the departure of Mosimane and Sayed Abdel-Hafiz. These people made a great history within Al Ahly Club, and this is the year of life.

"As a member of the Al Ahly Club's board of directors, it is not appropriate for me to go out and respond to the attack I am being subjected to, because this is an individual decision, and I do not know yet why Al Ahly fans attacked me while I was on the board of directors, and they must know how things are managed in the club."
