An African nation has now confirmed the appointment of Cameroonian legend Rigobert Song as their new head coach.

Song has been without a job since parting ways with the Cameroon national team back in February 2024. Now, almost a year later, the 48-year-old has been announced as the new manager of the Central African Republic (CAR).

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Song said: "Today I had the honour of being received by the President of the Central African Republic, His Excellency Faustin Archange Touadéra.

"We had an enriching discussion on the crucial role sport plays in the development of our youth. Sport is not just a physical activity; it is a vector of education, social cohesion, and personal growth.

"I am convinced that sport can play a crucial role in building a stronger, more united society. Together, with the support of governments and private partners, we can make sport a leverage for positive change in Central Africa and Africa.

"I thank the President for his listening and commitment to this noble cause."

With his last job being at an African football powerhouse like the Indomitable Lions, Song will have his work cut out for him, as the Central African Republic are ranked 135th on the latest FIFA rankings.

His first assignment will be the 2024 CAF Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), which will be played from 1 to 28 February 2025 in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

According to CAFOnline, it will be CAR's first participation in the tournament.
