Ex-Ahly star tips Tau for blockbuster SA return

A former Al Ahly star has tipped Percy Tau to make a blockbuster return to South Africa amid uncertainty surrounding the player's future.

The Bafana Bafana star is in the final year of his contract at the Cairo-based outfit, and while sporting director Mohamed Ramadan revealed that talks about a new contract would commence, nothing has been set in stone as yet.

The attacker had been linked to a host of clubs during the latest transfer window and has recently been linked with a potential move to rivals Zamalek.

A potential transfer to the Red Devils' rivals was also endorsed by Egyptian sports pundit Ahmed El-Tayeb, who urged the White Castle to take advantage of Tau's situation.

However, former Ahly star Said Abdelhafiz believes that the former Brighton Hove Albion star could opt to go in a totally different direction.

"Percy Tau is a distinguished player, but his performance last season and this season are completely far from the level he showed in Koller's first season," he said, per Al-Masry Al-Youm.

"From what I know about Percy Tau, if he does not renew his contract with Al Ahly, he will return to South Africa."It will be difficult for Zamalek to sign Percy Tau, especially in light of the financial crisis the club is suffering from.

"What I understand from Percy Tau's personality is that if Al-Ahly does not renew his contract, the player will return to South Africa."

The forward was also linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the new season, with the club having been described as long-time admirers of the player.

However, Tau later revealed that no clubs from his home country had approached him for his services.

The 30-year-old first left Mamelodi Sundowns to join Brighton in 2018. What followed were stints in Belgium before he was signed by Al Ahly in 2021.
