OFFICIAL: Tau headlines Al Ahly squad for CWC

Egyptian giants Al Ahly have announced their squad for the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup, with Percy Tau set to feature in the tournament. 

The Red Devils are gearing up for the international competition set to take place in Saudi Arabia, which will commence on Tuesday, 12 December, when Al Ittihad officially kick this year's proceedings off with a clash against New Zealand side Auckland City.

With an African club never having won the tournament since its inception in 2000, the 2022/23 CAF Champions League winners will be hoping to record themselves in history. 

The squad consists of a number of individuals who have previously participated and impressed. The side will also be boosted by the selection of South African forward Tau, the experienced Mohamed El Shenawy, and the prolific Mahmoud Kahraba.

The Cairo-based team is scheduled to play their first game of the tournament on 15 December, facing whoever emerges as victors between Al Ittihad and Auckland.

Goalkeepers: Mohamed El Shenawy, Mostafa Shobeir, and Hamza Alaa

Defenders: Ali Maaloul, Karim Al-Dabis, Mohamed Abdel Moneim, Yasser Ibrahim, Rami Rabia, Mohamed Hani, Khaled Abdel Fattah, and Akram Tawfiq

Midfielders: Amr Al-Soulia, Aliou Dieng, Emam Ashour, Marawan Attia, Ahmed Nabil Koka, Taher Mohamed Taher, Hussein Al-Shahat, Mohamed Magdy Afsha, and Karim Fouad

Attackers: Kahraba, Percy Tau, and Anthony Modeste

Other teams participating in the tournament are Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds, Mexican club Leon and Fluminense of Brazil, along with treble-winning Manchester City, who have included Kevin De Bruyne in their squad despite the Belgian currently being sidelined due to injury.
