Rulani's Wydad to get rid of player signed just weeks ago?

Rulani Mokwena's Wydad Athletic Club are now reportedly looking to get rid of a player they signed less than a month ago.

The Red Castle announced their acquisition of Moroccan left-back Jawad Khalouk on 24 July, but the club's management is considering releasing the player either permanently or on loan, according to Moroccan outlet Le360 Sport

Prior to joining the South African tactician's side, the defender had received much praise for the role he played in helping his former club COD Meknes return to the Botola Pro 1 after an 11-year absence from top-flight football.

At the end of the 2023/24 season, the side achieved promotion by finishing top of the Botola 2 table with 58 points from 30 matches, winning 17 of them, losing six and drawing seven.

Now, however, Wydad seem to have had a change of heart and are said to be considering "releasing the player officially" by sending him out on loan or even terminating his newly-signed contract.

Head coach Mokwena will have had the opportunity to assess the left-back's abilities in training and friendly matches since the player returned from an off-season break.

It has been suggested that the former Mamelodi Sundown tactician "does not rely" on Khalouk, which is believed to be why the club have reached the conclusion that they need to let him go.

It has also understood that it was former Wydad president Abdelmajid El Bernaki who initially reached the agreement to sign the defender.

Earlier this week, the Moroccan outfit, under the leadership of new president Hicham Ait Menna, brought in another left-back in the form of Zakaria Nassik, who is said to have terminated his contract with former club MAS Fes in order to make the move.

Rivals Raja Athletic Club were also said to be interested in Nassik's services, but the Red Castle managed to beat them to the 27-year-old's signature.
