South Sudan boss: I only brought 14-15 players for Bafana

The South Sudan coach has revealed why he only brought "14 to 15 players" for their game against Bafana Bafana on Tuesday evening.

Bafana are set to end their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a clash against South Sudan at the Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Both teams already know their fate, as the home side sealed qualification last Friday after an impressive 2-0 win against Uganda in the nation's capital, Kampala.

South Sudan, on the other hand, will not be at AFCON 2025 despite their recent 3-2 win over Congo on matchday five, which was their first victory of the qualifiers.

With the Sudanese side only having pride to play for, their coach Nicholas Dupuis opened up about the challenges his team faced ahead of their game against Bafana.

The Frenchman revealed that he had to reduce the size of his squad due to their financial situation and only selected South Sudan-based players to help prepare for the second preliminary round of the upcoming CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN).

"We are very proud to play such a good team, a very good team. I want to congratulate South Africa for qualifying for the AFCON," Dupuis said in a press conference on Tuesday.

"We are here with only 14-15 players because the tickets were expensive, but we are here, we are fighters.

"My players have a good spirit, and we are going to do our best.

"Last week we won against Congo with a CHAN team, so I brought only the CHAN team for this game because we have to also prepare for the second round of preliminaries for that...we have to play Rwanda in December."

Dupuis also showered Bafana with praise, adding: "I saw the game here between South Africa and Congo, and I think it was 5-0...I am very afraid of that.

"South Africa has a lot of good players, and they did the semifinals at AFCON. So I think they are one of the 5-6 best teams in Africa. Sudan is not the same."
