Tunisians 'impressed' by Nabi after Loftus appearance

It is now reported that a group Tunisian supporters were impressed by Kaizer Chiefs boss Nasreddine Nabi after his appearance at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Thursday.

Tunisia claimed a 3-2 win over Madagascar in Pretoria on Thursday during matchday five of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The game, initially set to be played at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, was moved to Loftus Versfeld due to Madagascar not having a venue that meets CAF and FIFA requirements to stage their home fixtures.

The result was enough to secure Tunisia a spot at AFCON 2025 in Morocco, joining more than a dozen other nations who have also qualified for the tournament.

In attendance was none other than Chiefs' Tunisian boss Nabi, who showed his support as his country sealed their 22nd qualification for Africa's biggest showpiece.

Nabi is believed to have recently undergone surgery for a knee injury sustained last week during training with Amakhosi.

Despite his injury, the 59-year-old was captured on camera standing and leaning on his crutches during the Tunisian national anthem before kick-off at Loftus.

According to a Tunisian outlet, Nabi's respectful gesture, despite being injured, warmed the hearts of many Tunisian supporters.

The report also states that the Monastir-born coach was previously nominated by numerous media outlets to become the Tunisia national team coach, as he was seen as a distinguished candidate to lead the North African giants.

However, after Nabi began his tenure at Naturena in July 2024, the Lions of Carthage later promoted their former assistant coach Kais Yaakoubi as their new permanent boss in October.

Meanwhile, Nabi has already overseen seven matches as Chiefs boss, winning three, losing three, and drawing one.
