Man City maintain perfect start with late winner

Manchester City remain the only side with a perfect record in the Premier League with a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon.

Man City were without manager Pep Guardiola on the bench as he's recovering from a back operation and his assistant Juanma Lillo was in charge.

The Citizens made two changes from their win over Newcastle United, as Bernardo Silva and Nathan Ake were recalled.

City struggled to get into their usual passing rhythm although they pinned Sheffield in their own half and with 20 minutes on the clock, Ake found the back of the net after he finished a loose ball from a corner but the goal was ruled out for offside.

The visitors gained momentum after that as seven minutes later Julian Alvarez came close to breaking the deadlock with a strike from a rebound that was repelled by goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.

The Blades could not get out of their own half and they conceded a penalty ten minutes before the interval after a handball by John Egan.

However, Erling Haaland could not capitalize for the Citizens, as his low left-footed spot-kick crashed against the bottom post.

Lillo's charges had better control of the game in possession coming from the break and Haaland had a good chance on the hour-mark after a through ball by Mateo Kovacic in the box but his chipped shot was parried away by Foderingham.

City's persistence paid off just two minutes later after the Norwegian striker finally broke the deadlock with a towering header at the back post from a lofted pass by Jack Grealish.

Sheffield had a better resistance after that and with 16 minutes to go, Anel Ahmedhodzic almost got them the equaliser with a long range strike that missed the open goals just wide after a poor clearance by shot-stopper Ederson.

City made another mistake with five minutes to go, unable to clear danger after Kyle Walker's back-heel on the byline was intercepted and they were punished, as Jayden Bogle snatched the equaliser for the Blades with a thumping shot across Ederson.

However, Walker made up for it immediately after he forced a mistake high up the field and made a crucial cut-back in the box and Rodri, from a rebound, fired home a rocket that secured all the three points for the Citizens.
