FC Barcelona have now officially parted ways with manager Xavi Hernandez.

Following widespread reports that Barca president Joan Laporta had fallen out with Xavi, the club has now confirmed the departure of the 44-year-old tactician.

A statement on the club's official website reads: "The president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, informed Xavi Hernandez this afternoon that he will not continue as coach of the first team in the 2024/25 season.

"The meeting took place at the Joan Gamper Sports City and the sports vice-president, Rafa Yuste, and the sports director, Anderson Luís de Souza, Deco, as well as Xavi's assistants, Òscar Hernández and Sergio Alegre, were present.

"FC Barcelona wants to thank Xavi for his work as a coach, which adds to an unparalleled career as a player and team captain, and wishes him all the luck in the world.

"Xavi Hernández will coach his last game as first team coach this Sunday in Seville.

"In the coming days, FC Barcelona will report on the new structure of the first team."

Xavi was put in charge of the club in November 2021, replacing Ronald Koeman at the helm.

In his first six months in charge, the former midfielder guided the Blaugrana to a second-place finish in LALIGA, and in his full season in 2022/23, he clinched the league title as well as the Supercopa de Espana (Spanish Super Cup).

His last game, against Sevilla, will be his 142nd match as Barca manager, and during that period, he registered 89 wins, 23 draws, and 29 defeats.

It is reported that he will be replaced by German coach Hansi Flick, with it believed he will sign a one-year deal with an option to extend for another season based on objectives.
