OFFICIAL: Sundowns' biggest payday confirmed by FIFA

With FIFA having previously revealed that the total prize pool for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup stands at a staggering $1 billion (R18.2 billion), the world football governing body has now confirmed exactly how much the four CAF teams will receive for their participation alone.

FIFA has confirmed that the four African sides participating in the new 32-team Club World Cup — Al Ahly, Espérance de Tunis, Wydad Athletic Club, and Mamelodi Sundowns — are each guaranteed $9.55 million (R174 million) simply for taking part.

Notably, this amount is less than what European clubs will receive, with their participation earnings ranging from $12.81 million to $38.19 million (R233 million to R676 million), depending on FIFA's sporting and commercial criteria.

On-pitch results are also incentivised. A victory in the group stage will earn teams like Sundowns an additional $2 million (R36 million), while a draw will be worth $1 million (R18 million).

All teams that reach the round of 16 will receive $7.5 million (R136 million) for advancing to that stage.

Progressing to the quarter-finals will guarantee the last eight clubs $13.125 million (R239 million).

A spot in the semi-finals is worth a further $21 million (R382 million).

The two finalists will each receive $30 million (R546 million), with the winner of the tournament earning an additional $40 million (R729 million).
