The pair were previously embroiled in a bitter row when Neymar was sent off for slapping the Spanish defender during PSG's 1-0 Ligue 1 defeat to Marseille in September last year, during which no fewer than five players were shown their marching orders.
In the aftermath of the Parisians victory, Neymar took to social media to taunt his opponent, posting the caption "King, Alvaro born?" on his official Twitter account alongside a celebratory image of himself.
The back-and-forth continued with Neymar questioning the former Villarreal defender's trophy haul, which was met with a retort that the Brazil star was living in Pele's shadow, before the former FC Barcelona forward had the last say by claiming that he was responsible for making the centre-back famous.
The tensions between the duo seems to have simmered since, with no further messages being posted since Wednesday evening, but could be reignited again next month when Neymar welcomes Gonzalez to the Parc des Princes on 7 February.
