Mbappe prepared for R1.5bn lawsuit against Euro giants

Kylian Mbappe's mother has confirmed that the French superstar is prepared to sue a top European club over a €80 million (R1.5 billion) payment.

This week, Mbappe was unveiled as a new Real Madrid player in front of a crowd of more than 80 000 spectators, which is a moment that many had anticipated for several seasons.

Having seemingly put his relationship with his previous employers Paris Saint-Germain in the past, the 25-year-old's mother, Fayza Lamari, has now revealed that the player could sue the Ligue 1 giants due to not paying the €80 million for a bonus plus two months wages owed for April and May 2024.

It was widely reported that Mbappe had verbally agreed to waive €55 million (R1 billion) in due bonuses but this agreement was never formally changed in his contract.

PSG, on the other hand, claims that Mbappe verbally agreed to give up €80 million in loyalty bonuses and salary but still no formal agreement was signed.

According to ESPN, PSG were hoping that Mbappe would stay at the Par des Princes for another and sign the deal but relations soured between the two parties.

When asked if Mbappé is ready to take PSG to court, Lamari told Le Parisien as reported in Diario AS: "If we have no other choice, yes, of course. Now, I really hope that the contract we signed two years ago is respected.

"Let's stop saying that Kylian said or didn't say, he did this or didn't do that ... In reality, no one can say what happened, neither me nor PSG's representatives because for two years Kylian and the [club] president [Nasser Al-Khelaifi] always met alone, apart from once.

"And all that has not stopped Kylian from playing since the announcement [made by Mbappé to PSG of his departure] was made in February ..."

"It is now in the hands of Kylian's representatives," Lamari added. "But I trust PSG to get things back to normal very quickly. We just received a letter ... Decisions will be made.

"Sometimes, when you separate, you have to decide who gets the TV, who gets the furniture or the car ... That's where we are. I hope that all this does not tarnish everything we have been through, that we do not leave it like this.

"As in a couple, once again, everything is never rosy, there are ups and downs. But in six months, things will be better."

According to ESPN, some sources have revealed PSG are unwilling to pay Mbappe what is due to him in an effort to recoup the money from his exit as a free agent .
