Arsenal punish Real Madrid in UCL quarters

Arsenal edged closer to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals with a 3-0 victory over reigning champions Real Madrid at the Emirates Stadium.

Jakub Kiwior kept his spot in the defence in the absence of Gabriel Magalhães, while Bukayo Saka made a welcome return to the starting line-up.

The Spanish out have injury worries of their own, which saw David Alaba slot in at left-back as Luka Modric and Eduardo Camavinga started in midfield with Jude Bellingham.

After a scoreless first half, Mikel Arteta's men broke the deadlock just before the hour mark through Declan Rice, who curled home a wonderful free-kick.

Rice went on to prove that his first goal was no fluke by doubling the Gunners' lead with 20 minutes to play by curling home another free-kick.

It got better for the home side in the 74th minute when Mikel Merino got on the end of Thomas Partey's pass and rifled the ball beyond Thibaut Courtois to make it 3-0.

The night got worse for Los Blancos, who finished the game with 10 players after Camavinga was given his marching orders in second-half stoppage time.

Bayern Munich 1-2 Inter Milan

Vincent Kompany was without the services of Jamal Musiala, who joined Alphonso Davies, Manuel Neuer and Dayot Upamecano on the injury list.

Inter, meanwhile, had start Federico Dimarco on the bench while Denzel Dumfries missed out completely, while former Bayern defender Benjamin Pavard also started.

The Italian champions got the breakthrough against the run of play in the 38th minute as Marcus Thuram's clever flick teed up Lautaro Martinez, who found the top corner with a wonderful finish.

Thomas Muller, who is leaving at the end of the season, gave the Bavarians some hope when he equalised in the 85th minute.

However, the visitors had the final say when Davide Frattesi bagged the winning goal minutes later to give his side the lead for the second leg next week.
