African giants 'make move' to sign Tau from Al Ahly

One of Africa's biggest teams has reportedly made a move to sign Al Ahly star Percy Tau as speculation around his future continues.

Zamalek have been in direct negotiations with the South African attacker and have learned what the player's financial demands are, according to Trend News.

The Bafana Bafana star's contract with the Egyptian giants is due to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season, and as such, former Zamalek president Mamdouh Abbas is said to have met with the player and his agent to discuss a potential move.

It is claimed the forward was offered a salary of $2 million (about R36 million) a year, with added marketing benefits included in the proposal such as appearing in advertisements for club sponsors and being compensated for it financially.

However, Abbas is believed to have demanded that Tau not renew his contract with the Red Devils and depart the side at the end of this season, and then spend a six-month loan stint at a Gulf club before returning to Egypt where he would then represent Zamalek.

The South Africa international is suggested to be willing to make the switch to the Egyptian Premier League side, but it is further claimed that the player demanded an annual salary of $2.5 million (R45 million), as well as a signing-on bonus comprising his first full season's salary.

Abbas is reported to have agreed to the former Brighton Hove Albion star's terms, but requested that the player receives only half of the amount for his first season with the side, so it remains to be seen if anything more comes of these reported talks.

The interest in Tau comes after he was said to have fallen out with Ahly manager Marcel Koller, as a result of what has been described as the forward's "reckless" attitude in training.

The 30-year-old has not been involved in any of the side's past four league matches, and it is believed that this has come as a result of what had supposedly transpired on the training pitch.

Tau's behaviour, however, is suggested to be a reaction to the Swiss tactician advising the club's board to move the player on so that a replacement could be brought in.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns player was also linked with a move to Libyan club Asswehly SC, but the side's transfer director Walid Tarhouni has publicly denied any move for the attacker
