De Bruyne 'chooses' preferred destination amid exit links

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has reportedly chosen his preferred destination amid rumours linking him with an exit from the club.

The Belgian is in the final year of his contract with the Citizens, and while the English giants would like to extend his stay, the player is unlikely to renew it, according to Sky Sports

The midfielder has previously been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Pro League outfit Al Ittihad, while it has also been claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo has been insisting that Al Nassr try to secure his creative services.

Instead, the 33-year-old is believed to be intent on moving to the United States, where he would represent a Major League Soccer side.

This decision is said to have come after discussing the matter with his wife Michele Lacroix, who would reportedly prefer not to raise her children in the Middle East.

It has also been suggested that the most concrete project for the former Chelsea star is San Diego FC, a newly-formed MLS franchise that is set to start competing next year.

The California-based outfit is said to be willing to pay him the same amount of money he is currently earning at the Etihad, which would reportedly amount to nearly $20 million (about R352 million) per season.

It is further claimed that the Belgian has grown tired of the frenetic pace and intensity of playing at the highest level in Europe, and would like to once again "discover the joys" of the sport.

De Bruyne has been a key part of City's success in recent years, contributing with 103 goals and 171 assists since first joining them in 2015.

Lately, however, the midfielder has been struggling with knocks. He picked up a hamstring injury against Inter Milan during their UEFA Champions League encounter last month, and has been sidelined since.
