Pirates or Pyramids? - 'They will need to take risks'

A former Orlando Pirates defender has detailed what Jose Riveiro's men need to do to get past a tricky Pyramids FC in the home leg of their CAF Champions League semi-final this weekend.

Pirates will host the Egyptian club Pyramids at FNB Stadium for the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals on Saturday.

Ebrahim advises the side to adopt a more offensive approach in the first leg, as the dynamics can change dramatically in the second leg on foreign turf.

"I feel that Pirates are in a good place right now. I believe they will go all the way in this competition because they have depth," notes Ebrahim, who also turned out for the likes of Rabali Blackpool and Dynamos.

"You need to take full advantage of playing the first leg at home. It’s going to be tough, given the conditions both on and off the pitch.

"On Saturday, we need to avoid going all out on attack and letting the opposition score, only for them to sit back and defend.

"It will require caution, but at some point, they will need to take risks. Pirates will want to secure a lead of one or two goals," he adds.

Ebrahim says the fact that Pyramids have made it this far means they cannot be underestimated.

"Their presence in the semi-finals indicates they can be a threat to any team. However, I believe the quality of Pirates should see them through.

"Ideally, a 1-0 win would be good; a 2-0 would be even better. Anything more than that would be great, but we must avoid conceding an early goal."

Kick-off is at 18:00.
