Mamelodi Sundowns legend Joel 'Fire' Masilela, who was at the centre of the 1998 Rothmans Cup final controversy, had added his voice to the ongoing debate about the goal that floored Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.
Sundowns beat Chiefs 2-1 in an entertaining affair at the iconic FNB Stadium, thus collecting all three points.
According to many, though, referee Sikhumbuzo Gasa and his assistants spoiled what should have been a good game with controversial decisions on the day.

Masilela, a high-flying winger in his heyday, believes Sundowns's second goal, converted by Iqraam Rayners, should have been ruled out for offside.
"Kaizer Chiefs were robbed by that referee, Sikhumbuzo Gasa," Masilela says in an exclusive interview with KickOff.
"As long as we don't have the VAR in South Africa, our clubs will continue experiencing such problems.
"Our standard of refereeing is very poor, I don't wanna lie. It's killing our football. As long as these referees don't improve their level of officiating, such problems will continue.
"The referees failed us on Saturday. They failed everybody. We should have had a great game. It was positive to see Kaizer Chiefs playing like they did. They have a very clever coach in [Nasreddine] Nabi. Since his arrival, there have been a lot of improvements. It makes football competitive.
"It's just that our referees don't want to improve. You can go down as far as the junior levels, where I'm still working, and you will see what is happening. Referees are not willing to improve. What is happening there is disappointing. It's even more disappointing in the ABC Motsepe League and the SAB League," adds a furious Masilela.
'Fire' says he wonders how some referees got promoted from the junior levels to the professional scene when they clearly displayed poor performance at amateur level.
"On Saturday,, you could see how frustrated the Kaizer Chiefs coach and his technical coach were. It's so funny how the referee, the assistant referee and the fourth official could not see that Sundowns' second goal was offside.

"I will tell you why they couldn't spot the offside, it's because they don't want to learn and improve. I don't understand why that is happening when other countries are improving.
"If what we call our best referees fail to improve, then how are these female referees and young referees going to handle the pressure?
"These referees are taking us nowhere."
