'He must be aiming to be best-paid player in DStv Prem' - Mendieta urged to seal move

In-demand Stellenbosch midfielder Junior Mendieta has been encouraged to prioritise securing his future amid growing interest in his services from both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

Mendieta – who turns 30 this year – has been a star performer in the colours of Stellies since arriving from Argentine club Atletico Lanus.

He had been out on loan playing for Atletico de Rafaela in Argentina's second division.

In the DStv Premiership he has been turning heads with his effectiveness playing in attacking spaces and has seven goals plus seven assists in 26 games this season vastly improving his output from the past two years.

As was expected, the signals of interest have gone up in Gauteng for the man whose playing style resembles that of Philippe Coutinho in his prime at Liverpool.

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have been mentioned and have openings in the position that he plays while for all their financial power Mamelodi Sundowns already have plenty options in attacking midfield areas.

"He is a South American just like me and with us if there is better money on the table and a bigger opportunity then we move," says a fellow South American who played in the PSL before.

Argentine midfielder Junior Mendieta

"I don't know who he is working with and who his advisors are but at his age, he should take the best money on the table and secure his future.

"In a year or two from now, he will start being told that he is now old.

"By then he is going to regret why he didn't move for the best money available in that market.

"Whatever money he is getting at his current club, the teams keen on him can improve it and let him play before a bigger audience.

"I don't expect him to stay at his current club beyond the end of this season.

"He must take the money and forget about the rest.

"This guy should have been at Chiefs or Pirates already, even if it means Sundowns let it be.

"This is a football career, and he is turning 30.

"He must be aiming to be the best-paid player in the league earning over R500 000 and playing for the bigger clubs like Chiefs, Pirates, and Sundowns.

"Deep down in his heart I know he wants to be on earning the best money and playing for the biggest clubs in the country," says the former player choosing not to be named due to his line of work.
