Stuttering Chiefs stumble at Chippa

Kaizer Chiefs were unable to get back on the winning trail in the Betway Premiership after a goalless draw against Chippa United on Saturday evening.

The Amakhosi made two changes from the win over Mamelodi Sundowns, as Zitha Kwinika come in for Given Msimango while Tashreeq Morris replaced Glodly Lilepo.

Chiefs were on the back-foot earlier on, as Chilli Boys defender Justice Chabalala came close to putting the host ahead with a header from a cross by Sirgio Kammies.

Although, the Soweto giants regained momentum a little to the half-hour mark as a snap-shot from Yusuf Maart forced a save out of Chippa goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, while Wandile Duba also went close with a header the box.

Morris looked to better Chiefs' approach through a header of his own from a pin-point delivery by Bradley Cross, but he too went wide as the first half ended all square.

Chiefs made a double substitution after halftime as Nabi threw on Lilepo for Morris and removed Solomons  for Njabulo Blom at right-back.

The Chilli Boys very nearly took the lead after the halftime break through a snap shot outside the area by Giovanni Philander, but goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma pulled off the save.

More chances fell the Chilli Boys' way a header by Aviwe Mqokozo caught Bruce Bvuma in a spot of bother, as the Chiefs defence needed a wake-up call.

Chiefs enjoyed a strong finish to the end of the first half, but were unable to carry the momentum into the second half as the Chilli Boys were resolute at the back.

The Amakhosi, though, had a few half-chances late in the game, with Lilepo, Cross and second-half substitute Ashley Du Preez unable to capitalise as the two sides had to settle for a share of the spoils.
