‘I see lots of goals in him’

Ethiopian striker Abubeker Nasir has been backed to flourish under Gavin Hunt after completing his move from Mamelodi Sundowns.

Nasir has made the switch to SuperSport United on a one-year deal after having it difficult throughout the two years that he has spent reporting to Chloorkop.

The 24-year-old was signed at the beginning of 2022 but was then loaned back to his former employers Ethiopian Coffee for six months.

Upon getting to finally become eligible to play, he featured in only 14 games in his first season, then only thrice last term after injuries became his second name, thus forcing the club to de-register him during the January window.

"I spoke to Gavin while he was at Kaizer Chiefs about Abu because I always knew he is the kind of player that can prosper under him," says fellow Ethiopian Fikru Tefera.

Tefera won two league titles playing under Hunt at SuperSport, before they briefly reunited at Bidvest Wits later.

"I know he (Hunt) will keep him fit and most probably make him do something good for the benefit of the team.

"He is the kind of player that Gavin likes because I know what kind of options he wants to have up front.

"I played under Gavin and so I know what he likes in his players, which is honesty and effort.

"Abu has the potential and it is now time to deliver under a winning coach.

"SuperSport will suit his style of play, and I see lots of goals in him under Gavin, plus the environment will allow for him to settle in without the heavy demands that were at Sundowns.

"I will be patiently waiting to see him get going under Gavin and all I want is for him to stay injury-free," says Tefera.
