Onana unfazed by Zim: Only 1 team is competition

Following Cameroon's 0-0 draw with Zimbabwe this week, Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana appears unfazed by the Warriors, insisting that only one nation can compete with his team.

It ended goalless between Cameroon and Zimbabwe when the two sides met match day 2 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Mandela National Stadium in Uganda on Tuesday.

The match was played in Uganda due to Zimbabwe not having a venue that meets CAF and FIFA's stadium requirements.

Despite the turmoil behind the scenes involving the Cameroon Football Federation and the country's ministry of sports, the Indomitable Lions went unbeaten in the first round of AFCON qualifiers, as they beat Namibia 1-0 before their stalemate with Zim.

Onana has now revealed that, although Zimbabwe put up a fight against them, Cameroon's only real competition in Group J is Kenya.

Speaking to Sky Sports on his return to England, Onana said: "Kenya is the only team in our group that is giving us competition but I hope we make it to the qualifying round.

"The game against Zimbabwe was a little bit hard but we came out with a point, which is good."

Reflecting on the fact that he was mobbed by hundreds of United supporters in Uganda, Onana added: "I'm also happy by the love shown to me by the Manchester United fans in Uganda.

Elsewhere, Kenya boss Engin Firat said that his side are not scared of Cameroon, with the two teams set to face off in back-to-back matches on 7 and 15 October.

"Do you think Kenya is an easy team? Cameroon should think about how they want to crack Kenya, we are not afraid of Cameroon, you saw the boys, how they played before against Ivory Coast, against Russia, against Qatar," Firat told Flashscore
