Haaland to become highest-paid player in England?

Manchester City are reportedly looking to double Erling Haaland's wages to fend off interest from one of Europe's biggest teams.

The Norwegian striker has been a revelation since making the move from Borussia Dortmund before the start of the 2022/2023 season.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a fantastic debut season by bagging a staggering 52 goals in 53 appearances across all competitions as the Citizens secured the famous treble.

Reports claim that Real Madrid are still monitoring the Norwegian striker as they look to find a long-term successor for Karim Benzema, who left the club on a free transfer in June.

According to the Daily Star, the treble winners want to extend the striker's contract and double wages in the hope fending off interest from the Spanish giants.

The Norwegian's current deal with the Premier League champions only expires in 2027, but the club are looking to extend it further.

Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne are currently City's joint highest earners with £375,000-a-week, but the report adds that the club want to offer the Norwegian a deal that will see him earn £600,000-a-week.

The striker's agent, Rafaela Pimenta, recently responded to talk about his client possibly joining Los Blancos in 2024.

"The open door can mean a lot of things. Our players can have the feeling that they have their destiny in their hands,"  the agent told El Chringuito.
