Man Utd boss: Relegation is a possibility

Following Manchester United's 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United at Old Trafford, manager Ruben Amorim has warned that relegation is now a possibility for the club.

First-half goals from Alexander Isak and Joelinton ensured the Red Devils suffered their third consecutive Premier League defeat – a run not seen since December 2015 under Louis van Gaal.

The loss also leaves United in 14th place at the end of 2024, marking their lowest position at the turn of the year since 1989.

Speaking after the game, Amorim didn't mince his words when addressing the club's struggles. "I think relegation is a possibility, and we have to be honest with our fans," he said per GOAL.

"We need to change something, but this season will be very hard on everyone. It's one of the worst moments in the history of our club, and we have to accept that. Another loss in front of our own supporters – it's tough to take."

The Portuguese coach has lost six of his 11 games in charge across all competitions, with the team failing to score in their last three outings.

Amorim took full responsibility for the team's slump, admitting, "It is also my fault. The team is not improving; it feels a bit lost at the moment.

"It's embarrassing to be the Manchester United coach and lose so many games. But in football, we have to cope with difficult moments, and this is certainly one of them.

"Right now, it's tough to change results because we don't have enough time to train the fundamentals of how we want to play. In difficult situations, you need that base to fall back on," the Portuguese added."
