Shock secret clause in Mbappe's PSG contract 'revealed'

A shock secret clause in Kylian Mbappe's Paris Saint-Germain contract has reportedly come to light, and it could have a huge implication on his future at the club.

On Wednesday night, PSG were dumped out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich after losing their round of 16 tie 3-0 on aggregate, marking a second successive exit at this stage of the competition.

However, it now appears that their defeat to the German giants was a big blow in more ways than one, with a stunning report claiming that there is a secret clause in Mbappe's contract that would have tied his future to Les Parisiens for at least one more year if activated.

According to Mundo Deportivo, if PSG had gone on to win the 2022/23 Champions League title, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner's deal at the Parc des Princes would have automatically been extended until the end of the 2024/25 campaign, a year after its initial expiry date.

After scoring his 201st goal for the side earlier this week, the 24-year-old claimed that his future with the Ligue 1 giants was not dependent on them winning the UCL.

However, with interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid still very much active, he has given no indication so far as to whether or not he will extend his stay in Paris beyond his current two-year deal, but will reportedly receive an extra €100 million (R1.9 billion) should he do so.

With Les Parisiens now out of Europe's premier club competition, though, the abovementioned clause is voided, so it remains to be seen if Mbappe will still be at the club next season, with many believing Los Blancos are now one step closer to securing his signature in the near future.

With his aspirations of continental club glory having once again evaporated, the attacker raised eyebrows when he suggested after the match that PSG had reached their "maximum" level in the UCL.

"They [Bayern] have a great team, they have a great squad, they have a team that is built to win the Champions League," Mbappe said, according to L'Equipe.

"As I said at the beginning of the season, in my first Champions League press conference that we were going to do our maximum. Our maximum, that's it, that's the truth.

"We're going to challenge ourselves and go back to our daily routine, which is the championship."
