5 holes Nabi has to close at Chiefs before Downs

With a big clash against Mamelodi Sundowns coming up, KickOff analyses five key areas Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi will have to fix after an embarrassing defeat to SuperSport United.

Goalkeeper situation

Nabi could be contemplating whether to continue with Bruce Bvuma after he let in four goals against SuperSport United.

Normally, when a shot-stopper concedes a lot of goals in one game, two things happen - the confidence drops and other goalkeepers are looking at the coach on whether they too deserve a chance to stake a claim.

Brandon Petersen, who has started only three games this season, will feel he deserves an opportunity.

Left-back issue

One thing for sure, even though Chiefs know about it, Sundowns will make special tactical plans to exploit the Soweto giants' vulnerability at left-back.

The transfer of Thatayaone Ditlhokwe has left the side exposed at left-back and how Nabi deals with it and which player he chooses to play there will be important.

Tactics

The Tunisian-Belgian coach prefers playing a high line and in both games against The Brazilians, in the league and cup, he played an open game and they got punished.

The Tshwane outfit, especially this season, enjoy playing teams who give them opportunities on transitions (and spaces behind the defence) and playing a high line or an open game could be asking for trouble.

Do Chiefs have impact players off the bench?

The suspension of Gaston Sirino will affect Amakhosi's depth, as Nabi could be forced to start all his best players.

How the former AS FAR Rabat mentor uses Tashreeq Morris and Makabi Lilepo would be key, as in the big games you need an impact player off the bench to influence the outcome.

However, the Naturena-based side have been boosted by the return of Ashley Du Preez from injury, although how match-fit he is remains to be seen.

Conversion

Chiefs have been playing well in most games they lost but could not put chances away.

In the Soweto Derby recently, they had big opportunities, but the lack of a killer instinct let them down.

Playing against Sundowns, not taking your chances is suicidal, as the defending champions have the arsenal to kill the game at any moment if you don't take your opportunities.
